A severe supercell thunderstorm moved into western Orleans county shortly after 6:30 pm passing just south of Medina. As it moved over East Shelby the low level circulation tightened and a tornado touched down in a field east of Bigford Road and south of Martin Road. Several trees were toppled on the edges of this field before the tornado crossed over East Shelby Road causing significant tree damage across several residences on the east side of the road, along with minor structural damage to a home. The tornado then continued eastward through a forested area with numerous trees uprooted and few snapped. The tornado then lifted over an open field west of Townline Road. Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.78 miles Path Width /maximum/: 150 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 09/02/2026 Start Time: 07:29 PM EDT Start Location: 3 ENE Alexander / Genesee County / NY Start Lat/Lon: 42.9096 / -78.205 End Date: 09/02/2026 End Time: 07:35 PM EDT End Location: 4 WNW Wyoming / Genesee County / NY End Lat/Lon: 42.8712 / -78.1529 Survey Summary: The National Weather Service in Buffalo investigated storm- related damage from a bowing line of thunderstorms that ended up producing an EF-1 tornado during the evening of September 2nd that affected areas east of Alexander, NY near Route 20. Initial damage from the tornado was noted in a corn field north of Route 20 both north and south of Browns Mill Road. Downed corn crops displayed a convergent pattern with an initial path width paced at 70 yards. Nearby, additional tree damage was observed with multiple tree branches broken and one large tree trunk snapped. The damage path continued southeast toward W Bethany Road where broken tree branches and additional convergent signatures within a corn field were observed both east and west of the roadway immediately north of Route 20. In the distance, uprooted and leaning trees with branches broken were observed along the same path south of Route 20. Farther to the southeast, the survey team found similar tree damage along Silver Road and Mill Road. A higher density of downed and snapped trees were observed near a residence along Mill Road. This included a dense cluster of large locust tree trunks snapped with a convergent pattern that led to the high-end EF-1 rating for this tornado. Sporadic tree damage continued near Linden and along Skates Hill Road just north of the Genesee-Wyoming County Line.

A severe supercell thunderstorm, that had been previously sighted having a waterspout, moved onshore over Olcott in northern Niagara County shortly after 6 pm. It is unclear based on the shoreline damage if the waterspout moved onshore, but about one block inland along Main Street, significant tree damage was observed and this is where we are confident the tornado started. The tornado then continued south-southeastward crossing the Great Lakes Seaway Trail and entered the southern portion of Krull Park while also producing tree damage along Althea Street. Drone video obtained by Niagara County Emergency Services indicated large swirls in the open grass south of the entrance, which led to the most significant tree damage where a whole stand of mature pine trees were snapped and uprooted. The tornado then weakened southeast of here with sporadic tree damage observed and likely lifted just east of the park. .Letchworth State Park Tornado... Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 110 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.25 miles Path Width /maximum/: 130 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 09/02/2026 Start Time: 07:59 PM EDT Start Location: 3 SSE Castile / Livingston County / NY Start Lat/Lon: 42.5862 / -78.0354 End Date: 09/02/2026 End Time: 08:01 PM EDT End Location: 4 WSW Nunda / Livingston County / NY End Lat/Lon: 42.5743 / -78.0174 Survey Summary: The National Weather Service in Buffalo completed a damage survey across southwest Livingston County today in response to reports of concentrated areas of damage near Portageville and the southern end of Letchworth State Park from thunderstorms on the evening of September 2nd. A line of severe thunderstorms moved through the area during the evening hours, producing areas of thunderstorm wind damage. Several small, brief areas of rotation developed along the line and produced this brief squall line tornado around 8 PM EDT. The first instance of damage was on the eastern side of the gorge in Letchworth State Park along the East Parade Grounds Rd in the Town of Portage. There was significant tree damage in this area, with dozens of large hardwoods snapped and uprooted. A cluster of a half dozen large and very tall locust trees were snapped off at the trunk, with several falling on a large park pavilion. The structure sustained significant damage from the falling trees. Farther southeast along East Parade Grounds Rd, several dozen hardwood and softwood trees were uprooted or snapped, with tree damage in this area showing a convergent path. The final damage location was along River Rd just northeast of Route 436, with another cluster of a dozen hardwood trees uprooted or snapped at the trunk. Tree damage in this area showed a clearly convergent and rotational damage path. The path of damage ended in a forested area just north of Route 436. This tornado was in close proximity to another tornado just over the Genesee River in Wyoming County. Radar data and the damage paths suggest these were two separate, distinct tornado damage paths with a different path orientation. The National Weather Service extends its thanks to Livingston County Emergency Management for providing the location of the most significant damage, and for providing an escort through the heavily damaged east side of Letchworth State Park.

A line of severe thunderstorms moved through the area during the evening hours, producing areas of thunderstorm wind damage. Several small, brief areas of rotation developed along the line and produced this brief squall line tornado around 8 PM EDT. The first instance of damage was noted along Griffith Rd just east of Halvorsen Rd in the Town of Genesee Falls, about one mile west of Portageville. Sporadic tree damage was noted in this area. Sporadic tree damage was also noted along the eastern end of East Koy Rd, which was likely a mix of thunderstorm wind damage and tornado damage. Tree damage became more significant at the eastern end of Griffith Rd near the intersection with Route 19A, where dozens of healthy hardwood and softwood trees were uprooted or snapped off at the trunk. The tree damage in this area showed a distinct convergent pattern. Significant tree damage extended east across Route 19A into Letchworth State Park near the Portageville entrance, with numerous large trees uprooted or snapped off at the trunk on the slope between Park Rd and the Genesee River. The damage then rapidly diminished along the Genesee River, at which point the brief tornado dissipated just north of the Hamlet of Portageville. This tornado was in close proximity to another tornado just over the Genesee River in Livingston County. Radar data and the damage paths suggest these were two separate, distinct tornado damage paths with a different path orientation. Rating: EF1 Estimated Peak Wind: 105 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.23 miles Path Width /maximum/: 130 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 09/02/2026 Start Time: 07:30 PM EDT Start Location: 1 NE Webster / Monroe County / NY Start Lat/Lon: 43.2269 / -77.4014 End Date: 09/02/2026 End Time: 07:34 PM EDT End Location: 4 E Webster / Wayne County / NY End Lat/Lon: 43.2058 / -77.345 Survey Summary: The National Weather Service in Buffalo completed a damage survey across eastern Monroe County and western Wayne County today in response to reports of concentrated areas of damage near Webster and Ontario from a line of severe thunderstorms on Wednesday, September 2nd. Embedded low level rotation within a squall line moved through Webster shortly before 7:30 pm, and a tornado touched down in the vicinity of Salt Road just north of Route 104 as evidenced by several snapped softwood trees. The tornado then crossed Route 104 as it headed southeastward, with another area of concentrated damage noted near the intersection of Basket Road and Ridge Road. Here several hardwood trees were snapped or uprooted, and a few power poles were knocked down. The tornado then continued to the southeast through open fields until encountering a small subdivision just west of County Line Road. Here the most significant damage occurred with roof uplift, considerable shingle loss, and siding damage on a few homes on Halesworth Lane and Bannerwood Drive. Numerous trees in the subdivision were also snapped or uprooted. Additional tree damage was seen along Foxworth Drive, and then the tornado traveled through a large forested area with no road access. Finally, the tornado emerged along North Lincoln Road just north of Whitney Drive, and produced extensive tree damage at a large property where numerous mature trees were uprooted or snapped, before lifting just east of this area.
