Dangerous Heat in the Central and Eastern U.S.; Severe Thunderstorms in the Central U.S. and Northeast; Critical Fire Weather in the Four Corners

Dangerous, record-breaking heat will intensify across most of the central and eastern U.S this week. Heat indices will likely exceed 100 degrees. Severe thunderstorms are forecast from parts of the central High Plains into the Upper Midwest, and across parts of the Northeast. Overview

An area of low pressure tracked east southeast across the Great Plains and into northern Missouri early Monday. This system spread snow over portions of South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois during the evening hours on Sunday, March 12th and early Monday, March 13th. The heaviest snowfall fell in a line from eastern South Dakota into Northern Iowa, where totals over 6 inches were common.
