A pleasant New Year’s Day in store today with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 60s to lower 70s. Tonight will feature increasing clouds, perhaps some sprinkles, and lows generally in the 50s.
A slight cool-down will occur late Friday as a weak cold front pushes southeast through the area. Warm weather can be expected Friday afternoon ahead of the front, especially across Central Texas where low 80s are forecast.
Above-normal temperatures are expected to continue through at least the first half of next week. However, rain chances will finally appear late Wednesday as an upper-level disturbance and cold front arrive.
2025 for North and Central Texas featured a wide range of weather extremes, from significant winter snowfall to record-breaking late-season warmth. Notable highlights include a North Texas winter storm in early January that produced 11 inches of snow and a record 89 mph microburst gust at DFW Airport in August. While the region saw its lowest number of 100-degree days since 2007, a new record was set in December for the longest streak of temperatures reaching 80 degrees or higher. Hydrological and severe weather events were also prominent throughout the year. The Lampasas River near Ding Dong reached its second-highest crest on record at 40.38 feet, and significant hail up to 4.5 inches in diameter was reported in May. Annual precipitation totals ranged from a low of 26.4 inches in Weatherford to a high of 61.21 inches in Palestine.
