EXTENDED NOAA WEATHER RADIO OUTAGE IN THE ROCK HILL AREA

The NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards transmitter broadcasting from Rock Hill South Carolina and serving the piedmont of the Carolinas was damaged due to an apparent lightning strike and has been off the air since September. Technicians determined extensive repairs will be needed to put the transmitter back on the air. This work has been scheduled for the week of December 16, but if weather conditions make it unsafe to complete the work, it will be postponed until after the holidays. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our listeners.

Until the Rock Hill transmitter returns to service, listeners are advised to tune their radios to different frequencies in order to continue to receive weather alerts from NOAA. The Spencer Mountain transmitter near Charlotte broadcasts on 162.475 MHz and is the best choice for York or Chester County in South Carolina, and for Cleveland, Gaston and Union Counties in North Carolina. In Cherokee or Union County, South Carolina, the best choice is the broadcast from Paris Mountain on 162.55 MHz.
