Overview
Tornadoes
Tornadoes confirmed by NWS Chicago and their corresponding tracks will be displayed in the dashboard and interactive map below as NWS damage surveys are finalized. Note that any tornadoes that crossed NWS service areas will NOT appear in the below tornado count and table, though they will still appear in the interactive map display.
Select a tornado from the table to zoom into the track and view more information. The default table view is limited to 8 tracks, but can be scrolled by a mouse wheel or dynamically expanded. Additionally, the table can fill the entire window by clicking the small circular expanding arrow icon at the very top right of the table and returned to its original size by clicking the button again. The side information panel that opens over the map can be closed using the "X" on the upper right corner of the pop-up. Zoom into the map and click damage points to see detailed information and pictures from the surveys.

Straight-line Winds
Several corridors of locally enhanced straight-line wind damage occurred at the apex of a surging bow echo. Unlike tornadic winds which twist and turn, straight-line winds fan out in a straight or slightly divergent pattern. In some cases, these straight-line winds can be stronger and produce more damage over a much greater area than tornadoes.
1. Streamwood - Bartlett - Hanover Park
Several concentrated corridors of wind damage occurred in the Streamwood, Bartlett, and Hanover Park areas, consistent with straight-line wind gusts of 70 to 75 mph.

2. Griffith - Merrillville
Widespread damage (primarily toppled trees) occurred in the Griffith area. An NWS survey determined this damage was consistent with straight-line winds of 75-80 mph in this area. An additional concentrated area of straight-line wind damage occurred in the Merrillville vicinity as an additional surge occurred.
