Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall in the Northern Plains and Midwest; Fire Weather Threat in the West

Severe thunderstorms will continue to be possible over parts of the northern Plains and upper Midwest through Saturday which could bring large hail, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes. Heavy to excessive rainfall may produce flooding over a part of the Midwest today. Overview

A thunderstorm developed near the junction of Keith, Perkins, and Lincoln Counties late Thursday afternoon. The storm intensified into a supercell as it tracked southeast through western Lincoln County and into Hayes County. Multiple reports of large hail were received, as well as widespread wind damage in and near Hayes Center, Hamlet, and Palisade. Three tornadoes were also confirmed... two via NWS storm survey and one using radar and video verification.

Summary: The tornado briefly touched down southwest of County Road 738 and Avenue 357, producing up to EF-1 damage. Multiple trees in a shelter belt were snapped. A metal garage was damaged, and a cast iron ornamental horse was tossed 20 yards.

Summary: The tornado touched down just west of Avenue 356 and traveled southwest approximately 1.3 miles to County Road 736. The tornado produced EF-0 damage in an open field and through a corn crop. Limb damage to older cottonwood trees was also observed.
