Overview

An EF-1 tornado touched down in Campbell County, Virginia during the afternoon of May 11th, 2019.

Since 1950, this is the tenth tornado documented in Campbell County with the last one occurring on April 15, 2018.

Summary: An EF-1 tornado with maximum wind speeds estimated to be between 90 and 100 MPH, touched down near Tip Lane and traveled northeastward before lifting near Liberty Lake Road. Along its path, the tornado caused minor damage to three homes and severely damaged or destroyed four outbuildings. In addition, the tornado overturned one modular home and uprooted or snapped numerous trees. At its widest, the tornado reached up to 275 yards wide.
