Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
110 PM EST Wed Dec 24 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Well above normal temperatures and mostly clear skies today. An
upper level low pressure system moves across the area late tonight
into Thrusday, bringing rain chances to most areas north of the
North Carolina and Virginia border. Rain amounts between three
quarters to one inch are possible in southeast WV, however the VA
Southside and into the central NC Piedmont will likely see only a
few hundredths through Thursday. More rain is anticipated Friday,
then drier conditions return Saturday. Another system approaches
the area late in the weekend that looks to bring more rain. Much
colder temperatures and gusty winds will follow for the start of
the work week.

There are currently no fire weather concerns at this time given
recent rains keeping the top layer of leaf debris moist coupled
with a low sun angle.
