Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
231 AM EDT Wed May 13 2026

.DISCUSSION...

A cold front looks to pass through the area today, bringing
scattered showers and thunderstorms to much of the area.
With these showers and thunderstorms remaining scattered in
nature, widespread rainfall totals look to remain meager across
the area. Depending on how much rainfall occurs across the area
today may determine future fire weather concerns for later in the
week. Behind the front, gusty northwest winds are anticipated,
and dry weather looks to funnel into the region on Friday
with minimum RH values dropping into the 20-35% range areawide.
By Saturday, southerly/southwesterly flow returns, and minimum
RH values look to rebound into the 30-40% range through the weekend.
RH values this high should tamper any fire weather concerns
through the weekend; however, the lower end range of 20% on Friday
may lead to some localized concerns for where rainfall is sparse
in todays shower and thunderstorm activity. Overall, fire weather
concerns remain low for much of the area at this time, but should
continue to be monitored.

Temperatures and humidity start reaching summer-like levels over
the weekend into early next week.
