Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
231 PM EDT Sat Apr 18 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Wetting rain looks likely in the mountains this evening,
but less in the Piedmont. This will be short-lived
as winds behind the front shift over to the west
to northwest Sunday with gusts 30 to 45 mph.

Sunday will be a day for drying any wet fuels and RH values
dropping in the teens and 20s.

Monday looking a day with potential for any wildfire spread
as winds stay gusty while RH again drops to the teens and
20s.

These aforementioned conditions will make fire containment
increasingly difficult through next week.
