Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
418 AM EDT Thu Jul 9 2026

.DISCUSSION...
Seasonably warm and humid conditions expected for the remainder
of the week with scattered afternoon and evening showers
and thunderstorms. Rainfall coverage will be hit and miss
with rainfall amounts generally a quarter inch or less.
There will be some localized amounts upwards of one inch
associated with the stronger thunderstorms. Isolated wind
damage is also possible.

Greater coverage of showers and thunderstorms is likely for the
weekend with the passage of a cold front. Somewhat drier
conditions follow the frontal passage for the beginning of next
week, and may bring temperatures a few degrees below normal.
