Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
255 AM EDT Fri May 29 2026

.DISCUSSION...

High pressure and dry air will control the weather through the
next 7 days. RH values will be in the upper 20 to mid 30 percent
range for much of the mountains this afternoon and evening, with
drier air moving in behind a cold front. Somewhat lower RH values
will also occur over parts of the VA and NC Piedmont near
Danville, VA as well, but in the mid to upper 30 percent range.
In between these two locations and also on the ridges, RH values
will be higher and above 40 percent. Tomorrow will also feature
values in the 30 to 40 percent range for those same areas as
well. After that, moisture increases for Sunday and Monday with a
few showers possible mainly south of Highway 460. No significant
rainfall is expected however. Beyond that, the next chance of
rain may come next weekend.

Despite these drier conditions, recent rainfall will continue to
keep any fire danger threat low. Winds will generally be less than
10 mph through the next 7 days.
