Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
220 PM EDT Sat Apr 25 2026
.DISCUSSION...
Scattered showers and thunderstorms have started to develop
across the region this afternoon. Coverage and intensity of these
storms is expected to increase through the evening, with nearly
all of the lower Mid- Atlantic likely to receive wetting rainfall
by this evening, though totals for most will remain around 0.25
inch or less. Humidity will remain above 40 percent west of the
Blue Ridge this afternoon given the arrival of cloud cover, but
is forecasted to fall below 30 percent across the Piedmont given
longer opportunity for sunshine and heating before showers and a
few storms arrive.
Additional showers and a few thunderstorms are forecasted for
Tuesday and Wednesday as another low pressure system passes
across the region.
With increased rain chances and elevated RH values this week, the
threat for fire weather concerns has diminished across the area;
however, if a long spell of dry weather occurs across the area,
these concerns will quickly return.
