Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
210 PM EDT Thu Apr 2 2026

.DISCUSSION...

High pressure centered over Bermuda will maintain southwesterly
winds, and a more humid airmass over the region through Saturday.
This pattern will lead to much warmer temperatures areawide that
will run nearly 15-20 degrees above normal on the daytime and
nighttime temperatures. Dewpoints will generally remain in the
50s to 60s across the area through this time period, leading to
minimum RH values in the 40-50% range through Saturday before
much drier air filters into the region behind the passage of
a cold front Saturday night into Sunday. This cooler and drier
airmass will return temperatures to near normal for this time
of the year; however, RH values look to bottom out in the 20-30%
range each day next week starting on Monday. Gusty winds on Monday
and Tuesday up to 20mph next week may lead to some increased
fire weather concerns; however, as they become more relaxed by
Wednesday and Thursday, conditions look to be more favorable
for burning.
