Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
229 PM EDT Mon Apr 27 2026
.DISCUSSION...
Dry weather will continue for one more day on Monday as high
pressure continues to remain over the region. An approaching cold
front will push into the region early Tuesday morning, with
0.10"-0.25" of new precipitation forecast. While this amount
likely won't lead to significant wetting of fuels, it should wet
fine fuels enough to prevent any major fire weather concerns in
the immediate future. By Wednesday, another more potent surface
low looks to push north of the region. This looks to bring more
widespread rainfall to the region, with upwards of 0.5"-0.75" of
new rainfall for the region. If this precipitation occurs, ground
fuels will likely become more impervious to the spread of fire as
this rainfall will likely be able to reach forest sublayers
compared to Tuesdays rainfall.
Overall, with increased rain chances and elevated RH values this
week, the threat for fire weather concerns has diminished across
the area; however, if a long spell of dry weather occurs across
the area, these concerns could return.
