Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
209 AM EDT Mon May 11 2026

.DISCUSSION...

There will be two rain chances this week, today and Wednesday
afternoon and evening. Rainfall amounts from both of these
systems does not look to be a drought buster by any means;
however, enough rainfall to wet the soil and ground cover is
expected with both systems. During this time period, temperatures
look to drop below normal, but then should become normal towards
the end of the work week, before jumping to above normal values
heading into the weekend and early next week. Wind gusts in the
20-30 mph range are expected this morning, and again on Wednesday
and Thursday with the passage of the two cold fronts.

During the later half of this work week, minimum RH's will generally be
between 20% to 35%, and above 40% for the mountains, as high
pressure settles in over the area. However, with the forecast
rainfall, there are no fire weather concerns at this time.
