Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
206 AM EST Wed Jan 14 2026

.DISCUSSION...

An arctic front looks to push through the region starting
this afternoon and evening across the area. This will bring
rain showers initially primarily for mountain locations as it
is expected to fade the further east it travels. This will lead
to western facing and upslope counties likely seeing up to a quarter
inch of new precipitation associated with this front. These totals
quickly drop off, with likely only a few hundredths forecast for areas
along and west of the I-81 corridor. Areas east of I-81 will likely
not see any accumulations. Temperatures will remain below average behind
the passage of the cold front areawide, with another chance of snow
mainly in the mountains to occur over the weekend. Temperatures are
expected to stay below normal through at least the middle of next week.
