Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA

.DISCUSSION...

Moisture will gradually increase today into the weekend as a
cold front approaches from the Great Lakes region. Coverage
of showers and thunderstorms today will be isolated to widely
scattered mainly in the mountains, however coverage will
increase for Saturday as the cold front draws closer. Some
storms could be strong to severe with damaging winds as the
main threat. Despite smoke from wildfires in Canada passing
across the region, strong heating today will allow for minimum
RH values this afternoon to fall into the 30s and 40s percent
across the Piedmont, and mainly higher values over the
mountains. Winds today will remain less than 10 mph areawide.
