Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
200 PM EDT Thu May 21 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Arrival and passage of a cold front is currently leading to shower
and thunderstorm development across the area this afternoon. These
showers and thunderstorms look to continue through the remainder
of the afternoon and evening today before thunderstorm activity
looks to dissipate tonight. Thunderstorm chances decrease after
today, but showers remain possible through the end of the weekend
and into early next week.

Fire concerns remain low through next week given the daily rain
chances.
