Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
407 AM EDT Sat Aug 1 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Winds will shift from the south today, with gusts increasing
into the 15 mph to 25 mph range, as a low pressure system
approaches from the west. The southerly winds will make for
increasing moisture/humidity compared to the past few days, with
minimum afternoon relative humidity holding above 40 percent
under a mixture of clouds and sunshine. A few showers and storms
will develop along the Blue Ridge with afternoon heating, however
coverage of wetting rainfall will increase tonight through Sunday
as an associated cold front approaches from the west. Due to the
scattered nature of the rainfall, totals through Sunday night may
range from 0.25 inch to locally 2+ inches under strong thunder-
storm activity.
