Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
359 AM EDT Thu Aug 20 2026

.DISCUSSION...
Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across
the lower Mid-Atlantic this afternoon and evening, resulting in
localized rounds of wetting rainfall. Increased clouds will
maintain slightly higher minimum relative humidity compared to
the previous couple days, with minimum RH holding at 40 percent
or above areawide. Surface winds will gust in the 10 to 15 mph
range this afternoon from the west.

A potential remains for heavy rain and localized flash flooding
to occur across the Piedmont on Friday, more so east of a line
extending from Yadkinville, NC to the City of Lynchburg.
Scattered rounds of wetting rainfall will continue on Saturday
before drier air returns on Sunday.
