Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
220 AM EDT Fri May 15 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Dry conditions look to remain across the region through early next
week. Minimum RH values look to remain in the 30-40% range, with
some mid 20s possible across the Piedmont through Tuesday of next
week, before humidity increases areawide with increasing
precipitation chances in large part to an approaching cold front
from the west. The front looks to bring the regions next chance
for a widespread wetting rainfall, with only isolated showers and
thunderstorms possible across mountain locations through the
weekend. While RH values look to be low, winds will similarly
remain low, which should keep any fire weather concerns low at
this time.

Temperatures warm over the weekend into next week with some
record heat possible Monday and Tuesday. Overall, fire weather
concerns remain low for much of the area at this time, but will
continue to be monitored.
