National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
311 PM EST Fri Jan 16 2026

.DISCUSSION...

A Fire Danger Statement is in effect today for the Piedmont of
North Carolina from Noon through 6 PM.

Dry air in place today under a mix of clouds and sunshine will
cause relative humidity today to fall into the 20 to 25 percent
range, with locally lower values along southward-facing ridges as
temperatures this afternoon warm into the upper 30s to the low
40s. Winds today will gust to 25 mph at times from the southwest.
A cold front will arrive on Saturday morning, bringing another
round of snow showers to the mountains through the day, as well
as
relative humidity values above 40 percent. More precipitation is
expected Sunday, mostly for the VA and NC Piedmont. Dry weather,
but gusty westerly winds for the beginning of the work week.
