.DISCUSSION...
Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, lasting into
the evening, thanks to a cold front moving into the area. Storms
will have the potential to be severe, with damaging winds as the
main threat, though large hail cannot be ruled out in the mountains.
Temperatures remain above normal, with highs in the 80s/90s. Heat
indices will be over 100 degrees in the Piedmont, due to high
moisture amounts in the area. Westerly winds will be around 10 mph
this afternoon, gusting to 20+ mph at times. While a decent portion
of the area should see some rainfall, higher amounts will be limited
to areas under the strongest storms.
The cold front pushes off to our south for Saturday, with mostly dry
conditions expected, outside of a chance of storms in the NC
mountains. Slightly drier air moves in briefly, with MinRH values
around 30% north of US-460 tomorrow, as temperatures fall about 5-10
degrees. Winds turn to the northwest and become light and variable.
Rain chances return Sunday, as a southwesterly wind flow sets up,
with gusts of 20+ mph expected. Moisture and temperatures increase
once again, with afternoon showers/storms as a cold front moves into
the area. Storms could be severe.
