Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
231 PM EDT Mon May 18 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Hot and dry conditions look to linger across the region through
Tuesday and parts of the Piedmont for Wednesday, until
a cold front brings in daily chances for showers and thunderstorms.
Prior to this moisture entering the area, hot and dry conditions
areawide will lead to minimum RH values mainly falling into the
20s/30s on Tuesday, with an increase mainly for the mountains by
Wednesday as the aforementioned cold front arrives and advects
moisture north. Overall, with winds remaining mainly under 12
mph, the fire weather concerns look to remain low for much of the
area at this time even though conditions will be hot and dry early
this week. Several days of rainfall look to occur across the
region starting Wednesday, which will be beneficial for the area.
Depending on the amount of rainfall over this period, drought
conditions may improve slightly, reducing the overall fire weather
threat across the area as we head into summer.
