Fire Weather Planning Forecast for SW VA...SE WV and NW NC
National Weather Service Blacksburg VA
254 AM EDT Thu May 14 2026

.DISCUSSION...

A cold front brought scattered showers and thunderstorms to the
region on Wednesday, with Virginia and West Virginia mountain
locations seeing healthy widespread rainfall totals in the
0.50-1.0 inch range. Areas east of the Blue Ridge saw meager
rainfall totals, and NC looks to have missed out on any
substantive rainfall.

Behind the front, gusty northwest winds are anticipated,
and dry weather looks to funnel into the region on Friday
with minimum RH values dropping into the 20-35% range areawide.
By Saturday, southerly/southwesterly flow returns, and minimum
RH values look to rebound into the 30-40% range through the
weekend.

Temperatures warm over the weekend into next week with mainly
isolated storms expected. Next best chance of wetting rain will
be Wednesday ahead of a front. Overall, fire weather
concerns remain low for much of the area at this time, but should
continue to be monitored as temperatures start to heat up across
the region.
