1959 In 24 hours ending 7pm of the 6th, 1.42 inches of rain was recorded at the Airport. There was measurable rain for 22 consecutive hours beginning 7am of the 6th. Flooding of viaducts and basements was reported. Wind gusts up to 53 mph caused power outages in scattered areas mainly south of Buffalo and created high waves and beach erosion near the east shore of Lake Erie. The strong winds continued into the 7th creating 10 foot waves on Lake Ontario. A 45-foot boat near Hamlin Beach was wrecked. It was valued at two hundred thousand dollars. 1991 The first cold spell of the winter season set in on the 6th. During evening thunderstorms, 0.2 inch of sleet was recorded. It was the earliest measurable snowfall received in Buffalo establishing a record for the date. The cold also brought some lake effect snows to the snowbelt well south of Buffalo with an inch of snow reported over parts of Cattaraugus county on the night of the 6th.
