Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall in the Central U.S.; Heat Building in the Western U.S.

A cold front pressing east across the central U.S. will be the focus for areas of strong to severe thunderstorms and excessive rainfall through this weekend. Strong to severe thunderstorms my bring damaging winds, hail, and a few tornadoes while excessive rainfall may lead to areas of flooding. A Flood Watch is in effect for portions of North and Central Texas this afternoon until 7 PM Sunday. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches, with isolated higher amounts of 4-5 inches may occur in the Watch area. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
Storm chances will continue to increase today and continue through the weekend. The best rain chances will be across North TX and portions of western Central TX. Heavy rain may lead to localized flooding in some storms. Rain chances will decrease from south to north on Monday.
Seasonably warm and mostly rain-free weather can be expected for the mid to late period of next week.
