Last Map Update: Fri, Mar 6, 2026 at 7:34:08 pm CST

Behind all the activity Thursday looks to be another widespread chance at widespread critical fire weather. Currently a new system is expected to force westerly to southwesterly winds to push across the area at 25 to 35 mph with gusts upwards of 40 to 50 mph. These conditions will also be later accompanied by a cold frontal passage that evening, which will see winds shift to a more northerly direction.
Southwesterly winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph at times are expected, especially for the central and western combined Panhandles. Combined with low RH values, critical fire weather conditions are expected today across most of the Panhandles.
The cold front will drop through the combined Panhandles this evening. Behind the front, winds will be out of the north. Any higher gusts to near 30mph will be short-lived. Moisture will increase behind the front which will limit fire weather concerns. However, any fire that develops ahead of the front will need to be watched for the wind shift.
Dry conditions will look to persist behind the cold frontal passage tonight, with elevated to critical fire weather looking possible Sunday and Monday. However, a new system moving in Monday night into Tuesday could see showers and thunderstorms return once again with the latest forecast giving us a 20 to 40%. More activity could follow Wednesday, so make sure to check back for updates.
Widespread critical fire weather conditions are expected to be present Friday afternoon with potential for more elevated concerns to follow Sunday and Monday. Make sure you are aware of your surroundings and avoid any activity that can cause a spark!
