Areas of Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall; Heat Wave Builds in the Intermountain West and Plains

A slow moving front will bring rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall to the central Plains eastward to the east-central U.S.. The first widespread significant heat wave of summer for the Intermountain West and Plains is expected to develop today and expand through next week. Summer heat will continue, with hottest temperatures expected today and Saturday. Stay cool and hydrated! Check on children, elderly, and pets.
Temperatures will warm to upper 90s to 105 degrees today (Friday) and Saturday. This will result in areas of moderate and localized major Heat Risk to start the weekend. Warm overnight temperatures of 65-70 degrees will limit recovery. A Heat Advisory has been issued for 12pm MDT today, continuing through 9pm MDT Saturday.
