...The coldest July weekend on record for Rockford and one of the top 10 coldest July weekends for Chicago...
 
An upper level low was situated over the Great Lakes region during the weekend. This brought strong upper level northerly winds into the Midwest from Canada which ushered September-like temperatures into the area during the weekend. The result was the coldest July weekend for Rockford and one of the top five coldest weekends for Chicago.
