Heat Wave Expands to the East Coast; Flash Flooding Likely in the Central Plains into the Midwest; Severe Thunderstorms in the Northeast

Dangerous, prolonged heat is ongoing in the Mid-South to Mid-Mississippi Valley and heat expands into the Northeast for a brief period today. Widely scattered instances of flash flooding due to heavy rains are forecast from northeast Kansas to much of Indiana. ...The coldest July weekend on record for Rockford and one of the top 10 coldest July weekends for Chicago...
 
An upper level low was situated over the Great Lakes region during the weekend. This brought strong upper level northerly winds into the Midwest from Canada which ushered September-like temperatures into the area during the weekend. The result was the coldest July weekend for Rockford and one of the top five coldest weekends for Chicago.
