Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall in the Central and Southern Plains

Severe thunderstorms capable of very large hail, damaging wind gusts, and a few tornadoes are possible today across parts of the central and southern Plains. Overview

  • Wind gusts of 50 to 66 mph were observed across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. 
  • The peak wind gust was 66 mph at Valparaiso, IN.
  • These winds were a result of a strong low pressure system that moved over the Upper Midwest.
