Heavy Rain and Snowmelt Threatens Flooding in Southeast and Mid-Atlantic; Strong Cold Front Presses Across the Northwest

A southern storm system will bring heavy to excessive rain from northern Florida to the Mid-Atlantic through Saturday with a secondary heavy rain threat area from the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Ohio Valley. Overview

 

  • Multiple rounds of storms passed over northern Illinois during Tuesday afternoon and evening.
  • Very heavy rain caused flooding across much of northern Illinois along and north of I-88.
  • Some areas received 2-4 inches of rainfall Tuesday.
  • We received reports of three tornadoes. Two were extremely short lived and produced no reports of damage.  The third struck Manhattan, IL in Will County and was rated EF-1.  More information is provided in the tornado tab.
