This event had a mixture of freezing drizzle, freezing rain, and snow. The event started as freezing drizzle during the morning of January 22, and then saw freezing rain and freezing drizzle mix in the afternoon. During the late afternoon into early evening, this transitioned to accumulating snow for areas north of I-80. As the system low pressure moved over the area later in the night, precipitation was a mix again, though areas in far northern Illinois continued to see accumulating snow.
