Scattered storms are expected on the Caprock and portions of the far southern Texas Panhandle this evening. The storms will be capable of sporadic, strong wind gusts and locally heavy downpours.

A few strong to severe storms are possible Tuesday afternoon and evening, primarily across portions of the South Plains and the far southern Texas Panhandle. Strong wind gusts over 60 mph are the main concern.

Temperatures remain above normal through Saturday, but gradually trend cooler into next week. Thunderstorm chances return to western portions of the region on Friday, then expand to the entire area on Saturday and Sunday.

Local Weather History For September 15th...

1962: Hail, wind and heavy rain struck northern Lamb County this afternoon causing complete destruction of cotton and
sorghum in some areas. Hail damage was heaviest in a strip two miles wide and ten miles long in an east-west strip five
miles north of Olton. A possible tornado destroyed a barn and twisted trees on the Willie Green farm six miles north and
one mile east of Olton. At the Harlon Carson home near the Green Farm, windows on the south and east faces of the home
were blown out, screens torn off, roof damaged, and a well house blown over. Hail was generally small, but covered the
ground up to six inches deep. Rainfall was very heavy, with three to five inches estimated over the span of two hours.
