Scattered thunderstorms may impact the southern TX Panhandle and northern portions of the Caprock this evening. Some of these storms may be severe with wind gusts up to 75 mph and quarter size hail.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for the far southeastern Texas Panhandle and Rolling Plains from 1 PM to 8 PM Tuesday with temperatures of 105 to 108 degrees expected.

The highest storm chances this evening will be across the far southern Texas Panhandle and adjacent South Plains.

Some storms may impact the southern Texas Panhandle late tonight, some of which may be severe. However, southern portions of the region are currently expected to remain dry.

Cooler temperatures (relative to the extreme heat we've seen recently) will arrive to close out the week, but temperatures return to much above normal by the weekend.

Stay safe as prolonged heat continues to impact the region. Make sure you stay hydrated, limit time outdoors, and take frequent breaks in air conditioning.

2011: Scattered thunderstorms developed over the South Plains and Rolling Plains on the afternoon of the 25th. Around 3:30
PM, an NWS employee reported a very weak non-mesocyclonic tornado (landspout) southwest of the city of Lubbock. No damages
were reported.
