2001 (5th-6th): During the autumn of 2001, sunspot activity was near an 11-year maximum in the solar cycle. A major solar
flare erupted from the sun on November 4th, 2001 and arrived at Earth shortly after 6 PM. The result was a rare and impressive display of northern lights that were faintly visible low on the horizon as far south as Texas and Oklahoma. |
