Dangerous Heat in the Central and Southern U.S.; Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Northern Plains

Dangerous, prolonged heat is expected across portions of the Central and Southeast U.S. through July. Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected over parts of the northern Plains into the upper Mississippi Valley Tuesday, with damaging winds and large hail as the primary threats. A more prolonged stretch of hot and humid conditions is expected to continue over the coming week. The hottest days will be later this weekend into next weekend with heat indices of 100 to near 108-degrees.

was extremely dry. Only a trace of rain fell that month in Oklahoma
City, making it the driest July on record for the capital city. The

August 2000, when not even a trace of moisture fell.
