Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Central Plains and Midwest; Heat Pushes into the South and East

Scattered severe thunderstorms capable of large hail in excess of two inches, strong tornadoes, and damaging wind gusts are likely across parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley and Midwest this evening. Heat index values will climb above 100 over much of the area (except northwest Oklahoma) with values above 105 in some areas.
Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected along a front beginning Thursday afternoon and continuing into Thursday night. Damaging wind gusts and large hail will be the main severe weather hazards.
Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms may lead to flooding concerns across the area through the weekend. Rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches, with locally higher amounts are possible.
Be sure to practice heat safety especially when heat index values exceed triple digits during the afternoon.
There is a marginal risk of severe storms on Saturday from late afternoon through the evening. Large hail and damaging winds will be possible.
Hot and humid conditions are expected again Thursday, with triple-digit heat indices in the afternoon. Scattered shower and storm chances continue each day.
