Wildfire Smoke and Severe Thunderstorms in the East; Monsoon Thunderstorms in the Southwest

Wildfire smoke continues to impact air quality from the Great Lakes region into New England and the Mid-Atlantic today with widespread Air Quality Alerts in effect. Severe thunderstorms are expected across portions of the Ohio Valley and Lower Great Lakes into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, this afternoon into the evening. Isolated showers and storms will be possible tomorrow afternoon into the early evening hours.
The ridge returns next week, bringing temperatures and especially humidity back to concerning levels for heat risk.
Temperatures will warm into the weekend and next week.

Heavy rain, unofficially measured at 10 to 11 inches, fell in the
Mooreland and Mutual areas of Woodward County on this date in 1972.
The heavy rain caused severe soil erosion, but crop damage was
minimal, as wheat already had been harvested.
