Heat and Fire Weather Concerns for the Center of the Nation; Coastal Impacts Across the East

Excessive heat returns for portions of the Plains today where heat indices will likely climb above the century mark. Furthermore, warm temperatures, strong winds and dry fuels may result in rapid spread of wild fires across the western High Plains today. Chuuk State is comprised of the collection of volcanic islands within the Chuuk Lagoon and some 24 outer-island atolls --some 290 islands total. Chuuk is the most populous of the FSM states, with 53,595 people (est. 2000) and a land area of 49 square miles. It is a world-famous location for SCUBA divers, with a sunken WWII Japanese fleet to explore.
