Severe Weather Awareness Week presents Florida residents, businesses, and schools with an opportunity to learn about the common types of severe weather that impacts their area and what they can do to prepare. Each day from January 27th through 31st will focus on a different type of severe weather that is common to Florida. The National Weather Service office in Tampa Bay will provide a discussion each morning with facts and safety tips for each topic. These discussions will be posted on Social Media (Facebook and Twitter), Public Information Statements, and NOAA Weather Radio. The daily topics are as follows:
Additionally, a statewide tornado drill will take place on Wednesday, January 29th at 10:00 AM EST. The National Weather Service Tampa Bay will participate by broadcasting a Routine Weekly Test message over NOAA Weather Radio, and issuing a Public Information Statement at 10:00 AM EST. Participants of the tornado drill are encouraged to take a selfie in their shelter and post it on Twitter with the hashtag #TornadoDrill. The best photo will receive a weather radio from our office.
