Breezy and gusty west winds are expected this weekend across most of Southwest, Central, and North Central Montana. The strongest winds are currently favored along the Rocky Mountain Front on both days, and in the valleys of Southwest Montana on Saturday. Be prepared for strong crosswinds if traveling.
The potential for widespread precipitation early next week remains on track, with areas along and north of the I-90 corridor and south of the US Hwy 2 corridor having the highest probabilities for ½” of rain. Falling snow levels during the storm will also bring accumulating snow to the mountains, especially for elevations above 6500 feet. If you plan on recreating in the mountains from Sunday night through Tuesday evening, be prepared for cold and raw conditions. The heavy, wet nature of the snow could bring down tree branches and cause power outages.
