Wind and Rain in the Northeast; Atmospheric River to Impact the West

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. through today with gusty winds and areas of rain showers. A strong atmospheric river is then expected to move into the Northwest by midweek bringing a threat for moderate to heavy rainfall and flooding, gusty winds, and mountain snows for parts of Washington, Oregon, northern California, and the Sierra Nevada. Beautiful but Warmer Week of Weather
October Climate
Following a cool weekend, warm temperatures are expected to return on Tuesday, with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 70s and 80s. This significant temperature increase could bring our climate sites close to or even above their record high for the day, with the potential for even hotter conditions than currently forecast. Notably, Palo Duro Canyon might see temperatures reach into the 90s by day's end.

October was notably dry and warm across the Panhandles, with official climate sites recording average temperatures in the low to mid-60s, at least 3 degrees above normal. Precipitation was also below average at all sites, with each reporting at least half an inch less than usual. Borger, in particular, was 1.29 inches below its typical October precipitation totals. This dry and warm pattern is unfortunately expected to persist into November.
