Timing for the Average First Freeze
With dry conditions continuing through the next 7 days, the Climate Prediction Center’s 8–14 day outlook (Oct 11–17) offers a small glimmer of hope. The Panhandles sit in a near-normal precipitation category, which translates to a combined ~68% chance of near- or above-normal rainfall (and a 32% chance for below-normal). It’s not a guarantee, but rain chances could finally start creeping back in after this week.

Autumn is now the season for the panhandles. This beg the question of when the first freeze will be. Generally it will be this month of October starting in the northwest panhandles before spreading to the southeast. Best to prepare now for the cold as it is only a matter of time before winter arrives.
