Last Map Update: Thu, Jul 24, 2025 at 6:26:17 am EDT

Did you know? Yesterday (July 23rd) was considered the peak of the "dog days of summer." Rather than the image of dogs panting in the heat, the "dog days" are named based on astronomy -- specifically, the star Sirius. Sirius peaks in magnitude and visibility in the dawn hours on July 23rd, and the "dog days" are said to occur from 20 days before to 20 days after this event. In ancient times, many cultures believed exceptionally hot weather was directly related to the appearance of Sirius -- the "dog star."
Isolated showers and storms are expected across parts of north and central Georgia today (Thursday) and Friday. This weekend will be mainly dry and hot, with high temperatures in the lower 90s to lower 100s.
Shown on the map are the expected high temperatures, weather conditions, and probabilities of precipitation for today.
