Hurricane Isaias will track to the north-northeast before making landfall along the northern Gulf Coast on Friday. Confidence and concern are increasing regarding the potential impacts from Isaias this weekend. Potential Impacts for North and Central Georgia include a long duration of strong wind gusts (30-40+ mph), heavy rainfall and localized flash/river flooding, and tornadoes.

Hurricane Isaias will bring rounds of heavy rainfall to area late Friday through early Sunday, creating a risk for flash flooding. Widespread totals of 1-3” are expected with localized amounts up to 5”. The locations most at risk are poor drainage and urban areas, as well as creeks and streams prone to flash flooding. Do not attempt to drive through water-covered roadways. Turn around and seek alternate routes. Exercise caution if you have outdoor plans, especially near rivers, creeks, or streams.

We are expecting long-duration strong winds beginning as early as around 11 PM Friday, likely lasting through early Sunday morning. Downed trees due to the strong winds and wet soils, as well as power outages are concerns.
