Strong to Severe Thunderstorms in the East; Heat in the Central and Western U.S.

Strong to potentially severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts are forecast Thursday from parts of New England into the Mid Atlantic and Carolinas. Significant heat will expand across the West and Central Plains through Friday, potentially breaking daily high temperature records. Strong gusty winds and very dry conditions will result in red flag conditions across much of northern Arizona on Friday and Saturday. Fire will have the potential to rapidly spread, please avoid any outdoor activities that produce flames or sparks.
An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for areas below 4000' in the Grand Canyon through Friday evening. Although this warning is only for a small portion of northern Arizona, hot temperatures will stick around across the state through the end of the week. Be sure to practice heat safety!
A Red Flag Warning will be in effect through Saturday for most of northern Arizona. Conditions are ripe for rapid fire spread. Take precautions such as no activities that include open flames, don't park on dry grass, dispose of cigarettes properly or no outdoor equipment that could produce sparks.
