Overview

Supercell thunderstorms initiated across the southern and east central Nebraska Panhandle during the late afternoon hours of May 23, 2024, along the intersection of a cold front and dryline. These storms quickly strengthened as they moved east into southwestern Nebraska, producing multiple tornadoes near Lake McConaughy and in Keith County. Tornadoes were also reported in Hayes and northern and northern portions of Garden county.  These storms also produced damaging wind gusts and hail up to 3.5 inches in diameter as they moved through southwestern Nebraska.
