Tornadoes
Tornadoes confirmed by NWS Chicago and their corresponding tracks will be displayed in the dashboard and interactive map below as damage surveys are finalized.

| Surface observations at 10 AM CDT. A modest convergence axis (winds coming together), combined with an eastward-advancing gravity wave likely helped initiate thunderstorms across eastern Wisconsin and northeast Illinois. Dewpoint temperatures (a measure of moisture) were in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees at the time. | ||

| The combination of high dewpoints, warm temperatures, and a region of relatively cooler air aloft resulted in extreme amounts of instability (fuel for storms). This graphic shows MUCAPE (most-unstable CAPE) values near 6,000 J/kg in the region. | Winds increased with height and also turned sharply, resulting in a significant amount of deep-layer wind shear. This supported rotating thunderstorm updrafts. | The combination of extreme instability and strong wind shear resulted in a favorable environment for supercell thunderstorms, shown by the Supercell Composite Parameter (SCP) being near 20. |
