Additional Heavy Rain and Flooding Concerns in Central Texas; Tropical Storm Chantal to Impact the Coastal Carolinas

Heavy rainfall and flooding concerns remain for today across Central Texas and the Hill Country, with scattered thunderstorms expected this afternoon and evening. Tropical Storm Chantal has formed and will bring heavy rainfall and flooding concerns to portions of the coastal Carolinas. Great news for mariners on Lake Michigan!

Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and Purdue Civil Engineering have launched a new buoy on Lake Michigan near the Winnetka/Wilmette area.

  1. Lat/Lon:  42.135  -87.655
    (or about 4 miles ENE Winnetka)
  2.  Site Elevation:  175.5 m
  3. Air Temp Height: 2.75 m above site elevation
  4. Anemometer Height: 2.75 m above site elevation
  5. Barometer Elevation: 2.75 m above mean sea level
  6. Sea Temp Depth: 1.0 m
  7. Water Depth:   14 m
  8. Owned and maintained by Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and Purdue Civil Engineering
