Widespread Showers in the Eastern US; Severe Thunderstorms in the Plains; Heatwave in the Desert Southwest

Widespread showers and thunderstorms across much of the central and eastern U.S. will produce areas of excessive rainfall, especially in the southern Mid-Atlantic states. Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected from Montana into portions of the central/southern Plains this weekend. Great news for mariners on Lake Michigan!

Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and Purdue Civil Engineering have launched a new buoy on Lake Michigan near the Winnetka/Wilmette area.

  1. Lat/Lon:  42.135  -87.655
    (or about 4 miles ENE Winnetka)
  2.  Site Elevation:  175.5 m
  3. Air Temp Height: 2.75 m above site elevation
  4. Anemometer Height: 2.75 m above site elevation
  5. Barometer Elevation: 2.75 m above mean sea level
  6. Sea Temp Depth: 1.0 m
  7. Water Depth:   14 m
  8. Owned and maintained by Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and Purdue Civil Engineering
