2003: Following the severe storms the day prior, isolated severe storms developed again late this day on the South Plains.
Hockley, Lamb and Lynn Counties received large hail ranging in size from quarters to baseballs and created additional
headaches for farmers who had already endured multiple hailstorms earlier this year. From Sudan to Amherst, significant
damage to crops was reported after a swath of baseball size hail ravaged the area. In Amherst, homes and vehicles did not
escape damage as many windows were shattered and roofs damaged. Nearly $1.8M in crop losses and $200,000 in property
damage was estimated.
