Areas of Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall Today

Scattered severe thunderstorms capable of damaging wind gusts and some hail are expected this afternoon and evening from the Upper Ohio River Valley into the Northeast, and from the Appalachians into the Mid-Atlantic States. A Flood Watch has been issued for much of East Texas and North Louisiana, valid through 7 PM Tuesday. Expect rounds of heavy rainfall over the next few days with widespread 1-3 inch amounts and isolated higher totals exceeding 6+ inches. Training storms may result in 1-2+ inch hourly rain rates, increasing the threat of flash flooding.
There will be a risk for locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding across the majority of the region Monday through Monday night. New rainfall accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible. Within the Slight Risk area, there is a 15% chance of flash flooding within 25 miles of any given location.
The threat for heavy rainfall continues into Tuesday across portions of east Texas and north Louisiana. Expect rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour with some storms.
Showers are expected to linger through the overnight hours tonight, keeping conditions muggy but seasonably warm.
