Heavy to Excessive Rainfall in the Mid-Atlantic; Critical Fire Weather in the Northern Plains and Southwest U.S.

A slow-moving storm system will continue to produce widespread heavy showers and thunderstorms which may bring excessive rainfall and flooding across the Mid-Atlantic region today and tonight. Hot, dry and breezy conditions will continue to support critical fire weather in the northern Plains and Upper Midwest today. Southwest winds will remain elevated tonight, at sustained speeds of 5 to 12 mph with continuing gusts, particularly across east Texas. Temperatures will remain fairly warm, dropping only into the upper 60s and lower 70s.
The hottest temperatures of the year so far are expected tomorrow, under mostly sunny skies with southwest winds. Look for temperatures to climb to near records for the date, into the lower to mid 90s.
