The heatwave continues today with a record high possible at Childress. Temperatures will peak in the mid 90s on the Caprock to around 100 elsehwere under sunny skies.
Another mild night awaits tonight with lows in the 60s and 70s under mostly clear skies.
Thunderstorm chances continue to steadily creep upward for portions of the Caprock and Rolling Plains on Saturday into early Sunday. The greatest coverage of storms is forecast to be across the extreme southern Texas Panhandle. Some storms may be severe, capable of producing damaging winds, hail, and locally heavy rainfall.
Increasing chances for thunderstorms remain forecast across the Caprock and Rolling Plains from late Friday night through early Sunday morning. Some storms may be severe on Saturday, capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, locally heavy rainfall.
A potent upper-level disturbance will move over the region on Saturday, and will be accompanied by increasing chances for thunderstorms heading into the afternoon and evening hours, especially across the Caprock Escarpment. Some storms may be severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall. Storm chances will gradually diminish on Sunday as a strong cold front moves in from the north, and will be followed by much cooler temperatures on Sunday into Monday.

 

 

 

Local Weather History For September 19th...
1961: Hail up to two inches in diameter damaged several automobiles and dwellings in west-central Yoakum County early this
evening. Several autos and buildings had glass broken or cracked and area cotton crops were severely damaged. Oddly, very
little rain accompanied this northwest-moving storm.
