Thunderstorms will be strong to severe on Sunday. The stronger cells will be capable of frequent lightning, heavy downpours, damaging winds, and large hail over portions of central and eastern New Mexico. Another round of severe thunderstorms are possible for Monday afternoon and evening across eastern New Mexico. Large hail, frequent lightning and damaging wind gusts will be the main threats with these storms. Storms will linger across eastern NM through the overnight hours and may produce heavy rainfall capable of flash flooding.
An active, wet pattern is expected across the northern two-thirds of New Mexico through early in the upcoming work week. Widespread moderate to heavy rainfall is expected Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, and again for Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, for areas east of the Central Mountain Chain.
