Severe Thunderstorms in the Northern Plains; Heavy Rainfall in the Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys; Critical Fire Weather in the Southwest

Severe thunderstorms, with a significant wind threat, will continue through tonight across the northern Plains. Wind gusts of 60 to 100 mph are possible. In this current radar imagery, another round of showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected across the Four State Region.
There is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather this afternoon and evening across portions Southeast Oklahoma and adjacent portions of Southwest Arkansas. If strong thunderstorms are able to develop, there is a threat for a brief tornado or two during the afternoon and evening hours. Damaging winds are also possible.
There will be a risk for locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding areawide this afternoon and evening. Strong thunderstorms could result in rainfall rates of 2 to 4 inches an hour. Within the Slight Risk area in Southeast Oklahoma and adjacent portions of Southwest Arkansas and extreme Northeast Texas, there is a 15% chance of flash flooding within 25 miles of any given location.
Rainfall will decrease by the start of the work week, but with that will come increasing heat. Expect widespread high temperatures in the low to middle 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday with peak heat index values in the 100 to 105 degree range. Prepare for the coming heat now.
Showers and thunderstorms will come to an end this evening, with cloudy and muggy conditions continuing as temperatures drop into the 70s by daybreak.
