Areas of Dangerous Heat and Severe Thunderstorms

Dangerous heat will build across the Southwest U.S. through the end of the week with daytime highs of 110-115°F. Heat across the southern Plains will briefly ease to near-normal by late week before returning over much of the Plains into next week.  Winter 2016-2017 Events

  • March 12-15, 2017: Clipper event followed by heavy lake effect snow including into northeast Illinois.
  • December 16-18, 2016:  Two minor snow events, including a heavy lake effect snow band with 8+ inches into far northwest Indiana 
  • December 10-11, 2016:  Snow totals of 6-12 inches across northeastern Illinois
     
  • December 4, 2016:  Heavy wet snowfall for the first event of the season; largest December snowfall for Chicago O'Hare in 11 years
