Record setting heat is expected over the next several days from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains. Furthermore, fire weather concerns increase with dry and breezy conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threats for the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, central Appalachians and Southeast today. January 10, 2017: High winds across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana

December 16-18, 2016: Two minor snow events, including a heavy lake effect snow band with 8+ inches into far northwest Indiana

December 10-11, 2016: Snow totals of 6-12 inches across northeastern Illinois
December 4, 2016: Heavy wet snowfall for the first event of the season; largest December snowfall for Chicago O'Hare in 11 years
