Record Heat for the Intermountain West and Northern Plains; Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Threats

Record setting heat is expected over the next several days from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains. Furthermore, fire weather concerns increase with dry and breezy conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm threats for the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys, central Appalachians and Southeast today.  Winter 2016-2017 Events

  • March 12-15, 2017: Clipper event followed by heavy lake effect snow including into northeast Illinois.
  • December 16-18, 2016:  Two minor snow events, including a heavy lake effect snow band with 8+ inches into far northwest Indiana 
  • December 10-11, 2016:  Snow totals of 6-12 inches across northeastern Illinois
     
  • December 4, 2016:  Heavy wet snowfall for the first event of the season; largest December snowfall for Chicago O'Hare in 11 years
